ARTIST'S STATEMENT |
Nature and landscape art have influenced my work in a variety of ways.
While the ‘Lightning cube’ captures a natural phenomenon, the ‘Hummingbird cube’ depicts the outline of a ceremonial path created by the Nasca people in the Peruvian desert.
This path has the shape of a bird, and is one of a group of large landscape drawings realised centuries ago. It was rediscovered only a few decades ago, and photographed from a plane for the first time.
Another aerial photograph informed the work on the ‘Gangesdelta cube’. The delta could be seen as a huge evolving drawing made by nature.
It is long lasting, in contrast to the transient qualities of lightning.
I aim to produce work that is well made and that promotes energy efficiency and sustainability.
All light cubes consist of high quality components. The cubes are made out of sheets of steel that are laser cut and then folded. They contain an energy saving light bulb and acrylic diffusers.
The cubes are signed and numbered in small editions. There is a selection of different surfaces, while each cube has a final protective layer of lacquer. |
